This was really excellent Darryl. My husband is from Eastern Gernmany, but his mother was born in Königsberg, now Kaliningrad, and they were expelled after WW2. Absolutely ethnic cleansing, no ifs no buts. Even crazier is that my husband's granmother's maiden name was Rosenberg ie. she was Jewish. And even as the Red army comes in and rescue the Jews - German Jews were still thrown out of their homes, made to walk from Königsberg, through Polan, to Leipzig. And I know in Denmark, if anyone helped German refugees after the war (and there were many in Denmark), they ran the risk of being prosecuted as collaborators, and in the past couple of years it has come out that yes, many many German children died, from hunger or lack of medical care in Danish refugee camps. Imagine how conditions were on this walk through Poland? My mother in law told stories about how it was customary for the Russian soldiers to rape women in the refugee camp she arrived in when they arrived in Germany - and she and her sisters only excaped that bc. their dad was alive (bc. he was so old he had retired from the army where he was an officer before the war).

Israel is mass murdering those people for the crime of being born indigenous to that land and not being jews.

It's like something out of a midevil crusade story during the dark ages being carried out right in front of the world and nobody who can stop it is willing to make them stop

Hey Darryl, I’ve been reading about how the death tolls at some Nazi camps like Auschwitz and Treblinka were significantly revised down over the decades. For example, Auschwitz from 4 million to around 1.1 million and Treblinka from 3 million to around 870,000. I understand these early numbers came from Soviet estimates right after the war, which we now know were grossly inflated. Given that, I’m curious why the overall figure of 6 million Jewish deaths has never really changed. Is it because it became symbolic over time, or is there another reason historians still stand by it? I want to clarify by saying I’m absolutely not denying that Jews were persecuted and killed during the Holocaust, or that terrible atrocities didn’t happen, they clearly did, and the suffering was very real.

I understand your argument, but you must also agree that it’s very rare that 100% of population losses from “census data” don’t always mean that everyone has died. Stalin also initially claimed that 20 million soviets had died from the war, but in reality it was closer to 13-15 million. He simply based his estimate on population census, not realizing that millions of those “deaths” were simply due to missing persons, relocation, unregistered displacement etc. There’s many more cases in history like this where the census data showed way more losses than actual confirmed deaths, such as the Pakistan-India partition, Greek-Ottoman wars and even Germany after WWII. Also, the 6 million number was initially based on rough estimates of total Jewish population of Europe in danger from the war, and the claim of “6 million” started spreading as early as 1944 from Jewish organizations like the World Jewish Congress. It was mentioned several times during the Nuremberg Trials of 1946. It all just seems so finicky to me.

Jewish population figures in czarist Russia were notoriously unreliable, by design on the part of the rabbinate. It was a way to avoid military conscription. Given how wars went for Russia in the early 20th century, can you blame them? 6 million is the high end of the estimate, I've heard logical arguments for the low end being 4.5 million.

You’re right that the death tolls at certain camps (like the Soviet-era estimate of 4 million at Auschwitz) were revised down as more accurate records became available. But the core of your question can be answered by noting that the widely accepted figure of roughly 6 million Jewish deaths wasn’t based solely on those early camp-specific numbers.

Instead, it comes from a much broader range of evidence. Namely, demographic studies comparing pre and post-war Jewish populations, Nazi documentation (like train records/ Einsatzgruppen reports), national censuses, and survivor testimony.

So even as the numbers at individual sites were corrected, the overall estimate held steady because it was never just about the camps. Mass shootings, ghettos, starvation, forced labor, and other systematic methods of murder across occupied Europe also accounted for millions of deaths. In fact, the revised figures have strengthened the 6 million estimate by making the data more precise and better supported.

While “six million” has certainly become symbolic in public memory, historians still stand by it because it’s historically sound :)

It's always a good idea to re-listen to God's Socialist. For my money it's his best main series. Just finished Raven and was considering doing a compare/contrast. If anything Cooper's series is a white pill compared to that absolute downer. The sheer pointlessness of it all is oppressive.

I read a lot of what the early Bolsheviks were saying, and one of the few things that give me hope in all that rubbish is when they complain about the inertia of the lumpenproletariat. Those grandpas were content to harbor opinions about certain people, but the difference between them and revolutionaries is no one seriously contends they were going to do anything about it. This is a good thing. The Freedmen realized that thought isn't illegal, but when you start acting on those thoughts, it gives the state an excuse to regulate thought. Sure this is frustrating when you have a system that needs changing, but the stability is precious. Would it be worth it to completely expose the Epstein network if the end result is America becoming a failed state a few decades from now? I say yes now, but I wonder if the people that have to live in that third world state would agree.
