It’s strange hearing the “if he was black” argument get trotted out. Complete cognitive dissonance. I look forward to the episode. New subscriber, and disaffected liberal.
Awesome, this isn't just "current events", this is whether there is still a 2nd amendment, whether good people have a right to stand up to the mob, whether there even is an America anymore.
I'll say this... I obviously love all of your prepared and well-researched series, BUT I enjoy the loose and more conversational episodes of the Unraveling just as much. They have a different energy to them, like listening to friend open up on a topic without taking it to the doctorate-level. I'm assuming this will be closer to the latter, and I'm looking forward to it.
Darryl, stop teasing us and do the Rittenhouse episode already! Of course we want to hear from you, for me the more the better. What happened to the series that you were going to do on the Labor movement?
Well, fair winds and following seas, because this is going to be a trip.
Given that you have zero time to prepare, I don’t know how demanding we can be. But I’ve always been fascinated by the medieval roots of the right to bear arms and related links between forms of government and military technology. So if you get a chance to dig in and really bring your narrative powers to bear on this thing, that’d be awesome.
That’s the kind of perspective your listeners aren’t going to get anywhere else; it’s precious rare in our ignorant and ahistorical age.
As an Irish man I'm looking forward to hearing a bit more about it. Heard about it when it happened and seemed cut and dry to me. See bits online in the news, hilarious coverage from the alphabet news.
Thank you. The incident and its outcome is important. We have been silenced when it comes to defending ourselves, our property and our values if they don’t comport with the “narrative”. I would not have wanted my son to have acted, but I have considered my own response had this bullshit reached my neighborhood, as had many of my neighbors.
What’s on trial is whether or not the rule of law means anything for you when the other team controls the government. We may have already crossed the line and are no longer one nation of laws but are instead two separate governments with two completely different sets of laws, beliefs and morals that will do ever increasingly brutal battle to regain control of the courts, the government agencies, and the Fed’s monetary printing press.
I fear this is all too accurate, though I hope I won't offend anyone by saying that I expected the rule of law to be threatened by some kind of right-wing, Huey Long-type character rather than a bunch of college-trained bureaucrats who've decided that the path to utopia lies through the selective application of the rules of the administrative state. I mean, really, who thought the revolution could be brought off by people whose first response to conflict is to file a complaint with some petty official before collapsing into a traumatized heap, barely able - yet still managing - to tweet their victimhood and heroism to the world?
It takes a good knowledge of the history of malevolent leaders and movements to understand how they come to power. It takes humility to acknowledge that it can happen anywhere and that you and your society could be the direct cause.
All of human history demonstrates that we tend to lean towards brutal totalitarian regimes which centralize leadership and reduce or eliminate the voice of the common people. The ability to speak freely, exercise religion and thought freely, and defend ourselves against an evil person or an evil government must be the core of any free people, and that is what has been on trial with Rittenhouse.
I always felt that this trial is a demoralization strategy. No prosecutor should go that hard and so obviously lying. I've been disgusted by the entire framing.
I just subscribed to your sub stack after hearing the Kyle Rittenhouse piece and starting it a second time. I’m not near as bright or as good with words as you but I’d encourage you to continue the fight just how you have been. I was familiar with your work before this. I’d love to see you in front of Rogan who needs someone to challenge him a bit more and help him work through things. I was familiar with your work but you have been superb lately. I can’t think of a better voice for the movement we need than you.
Sorta feel like you should move on to another subject. We that follow you on twitter could use a break. We get it, you're passionate about it, but its clear that your a little too emotionally involved in this one.
I understand that it's difficult to look outside your preferred narrative...don't worry, you'll get there, with a little effort. I choose a consciously less biased route. Good luck.

It was so weird how Lebron James commented about the trial like a terminally online chud.
Looking forward to the Blood Meridian episode ❤️
Just finished that book. God, is that book dark.

Fine, but only if you do a secret hidden bonus track where you and Jack Daniels give us your unfiltered thoughts.

Well put. It sounds like the plot to a Curt Vonnegut novel. Not a place I would choose to be in.
Awesome... and don't feel bad about the dan stuff... it was big of you to erase it for bo, but it was something on everyone's mind.

The media is the enemy of the people.

Third that. There was a lack of the balance that I respect so much
You guys are bummed out that he said something (truthful) that didn’t agree with your worldview. Get over it.

exactly....
I second that
