Just a heads up: This weekend, I will be moving all of the main history podcasts over to the Substack podcast feed (they will still be available for free, and Substack subscribers will continue to get them 1-2 weeks early).
So no more delivery through Apple or other podcast apps? I would like to recommend for you to take a look at what is happening with Podcasting 2.0, the Podcast Index, and the ability of podcasters to receive payments of Bitcoin over the Lightening Network. Adam Curry (Podcast inventor and host of No Agenda Podcast) is involved. Remember, YouTube, Patreon, Spotify, Apple were all great until they weren't. Please move yourself to a platform that will not restrict the content we receive or your ability to receive payment for your work product. Please note, I listen to you while on the road. If I cannot listen to already downloaded content while traveling, the value of my Substack payment will no longer necessitate a contribution each month. Thanks.
You can use the "listen on" link to stream podcasts to applications aside from Substack. Also downloading the files is not hindered for the curious. Personally I download everything to put through some processing to make the audio more listenable(level compression to up any quiet bits to audible, stereo to mono).
Does that mean people can no longer listen or share via apple podcast, etc? Just wondering concerning sharing/referring the episodes with/for people / new listeners.
It will still be on all the normal podcast apps. Just getting all the regular history shows on this feed as well so Substack subscribers don’t need to follow two feeds.
Sorry to take any time, but I just wanted to say at age 65 you opened my eyes to the horror of Zionism/white slavery/the pernicious gov't involvement in Jamestown, etc. Thank you for your infinitely informed curiosity, your passion (even to tears) for those who have suffered in history, your taking the huge risk to take this endeavor to a full-time level, and especially your heart. You are so respectful, brilliant, and very funny.
God bless you and yours, and keep being a heavy-mental thought leader who is fearlessly expanding the bounds of traditional story lines.
The problem w/ having these exclusively on Substack is that it's a PITA to play them while driving, running, working out, etc.
I load them into RadioPublic, but when I recommend an ep to my wife or friends they just go WTF and couldn't be bothered with multiple clicks, downloads, errors, retries, etc.
Or am I missing something and they will also be available on other more user (driver) friendly platforms?
I don't believe he's saying they'll be rid from your normal podcast app/program (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, etc.). How I read it was that the already available podcasts within Substack may experience some downtime, but he's not even referencing other app so I would imagine they should all work just fine.
I work at Substack. I use Podcast Addict to listen to all of my podcasts (both Substack ones and non-Substack ones). Highly recommend it! You can add podcasts to Podcast Addict from Substack using the RSS link.
I find it interesting how every frickin retail store I go to regularly or rarely press me to “download their App.” (Which seems ridiculous-for the most part,), but then a service like Substack doesn’t have an App. (Which seems to make more sense?) Is a Substack App. Something we’ll likely see? Do you know why or why not?
Ok. So I can get a Substack App for IOS now? Nice. I just downloaded the Substack Reader. I haven’t opened it yet, but I assume it’ll be helpful/useful and evolve. Thanks
But I’m not going to download a Home Depot, grocery store, auto, clothing store, etc App. 😅
Is there an existing post to instruct users how to use the RSS feed for listening / downloading? I'm planning to put together a post specifically to address how to use RSS and Substack as users not knowing about to use RSS is common. If there is an existing resource I will just share that instead of my planned post.
Download the file from substack. If you are unfamiliar with how to inspect content accessed by your web browser that is something to look into. I say this because I download the podcasts then process the files to be more listenable while doing activities. Aside from not having a 'download file' button, there are no hindrances to downloading the postcast files.
Will transcripts be available? Even at a small fee.
Reading is much quicker than listening. Personally I’m only interested in gleaning any worthwhile content as quickly and efficiently as possible. Be a nice option for those with similar goals.
Hopefully while re-uploading you find that next Whose America episode and include that!

The substance feed comes through my podcast app just fine

backups, Darryl, backups .. !!
Keep up your great work.
Just don't hit delete by mistake lol
Hmmmm. Might need to hit a Jim Jones refresher. Thank you DC!

In and out, quick 20 minute adventure huh?
"Nothing takes 5 minutes." ;-)
Cool, then I'll be able to delete the other feed. It gets confusing since they both have the same icon.
That’s the idea
Dope!
Thanks, Darryl, for opening my eyes about so much. Have a great Memorial Day weekend.
You too thank you

Wow...we need that sort of expertise right now with Vystar Credit Union. They can't seem to get their act together. Going on 3 weeks now.

We have an iOS app, and an Android app is in development

Question was for @Sergey
2nd that. I have had nothing but luck with Podcast Addict.
